How to Obtain a Firearms Permit

The firearms license, as defined in Section 5 of the Second Firearms Regulation (2. WaffV), is a prerequisite for applying for a firearms ownership card and serves as proof of proper handling of firearms. A psychological evaluation regarding firearms is required for the initial application.

We offer a concise training program for the firearms license and also assist with arranging the required psychological evaluation regarding firearms.

Firearms License, Renewal, and Important Information About the Application at a Glance.

Your path to a gun ownership card:

  • Minimum age 21 years (exceptions possible for hunting or sporting activities).
  • Weapons psychology certificate (not required for holders of a valid hunting license)
  • Weapons license (not required if proof of regular use of a service, hunting or sporting weapon is provided).
  • Application to the responsible firearms authority (main residence)

Prerequisites for this are:

  • Valid document according to the law on firearms (firearms pass, WBK, hunting card)
  • No upright weapons ban
  • IPSC-compliant firearm and holster
  • (Pistol with at least 2 magazines or revolver with enough clips)
  • Shooting glasses and hearing protection
  • 150 rounds of ammunition

The firearms license course provides a concise overview of the basics of firearms law, firearms technology, and safe handling—including hands-on shooting practice.

  • Cost: 110 euros
Important:
The 2025 amendment to the Firearms Act introduced new regulations governing psychological evaluations for firearm ownership.

Going forward, these evaluations will be conducted separately from the firearm license application and in accordance with stricter guidelines.
